Buying A Home
Welcome to the "Buying a Home" section of our Web site, where we'll give you a basic overview of the steps involved in purchasing a home, whether it's your first or your fifth.

This section is organized to lead you through the home-buying process. If you're trying to decide whether you're ready to make the move into your own home, start with the Are You Ready? section, which provides a brief blueprint of the issues to consider before taking this important step.

Understanding Your Credit is the foundation of the home-buying process, so in this section we take a look at such things as your credit history, credit report, and score, and explain how important the "four C's" — creditworthiness, collateral, capacity, and capital — can be when constructing a solid financial foundation.

The next section, Your Loan Options, will further build your knowledge by examining the types of loans available to home buyers. And the last section, Getting A Mortgage, will give you the final walk-through about what to expect when researching, applying for, and closing a mortgage.

In addition to providing the resources above, we've worked hard to streamline the home-financing process for you. We've reduced the amount of information that you're required to give. We've set up this Web site to speed and ease the application process, and if you have questions, our Mortgage Center is there to help at 1-800-811-5385.

After reading the sections above, you may want to try some of the tools and calculators we have on this site, including the Affordability Analyzer and the Probable Qualifier. The Affordability Analyzer will help give you an idea of how large a mortgage you can afford, enabling you to focus your search on properties that are within your price range, or use the Rent vs. Buy Calculator to determine the size of mrotgage you can afford based on your monthly rent payments.

Once you've learned about the home-buying process and tested various scenarios using our tools and calculators, you can find the mortgage-loan program best suited to your needs by visiting the Apply Now section of our site. If you need help, contact one of our home-loan professionals at 1-800-811-5385.
